Ultimo Tafe

Ultimo TAFE is part of the Sydney TAFE Campus precinct, a long-standing educational institution featuring late-19th and early-20th-century sandstone and brick buildings. The campus forms part of a broader heritage conservation area in Ultimo, reflecting Sydney’s industrial and educational history.
Working within this environment requires sensitivity to heritage detailing, material selection and visual integration with existing structures. The parapet restoration and capping project demanded high craftsmanship and precision, as it formed a highly visible architectural element on a prominent education facility.

Total works included;

• Supply and install 30 kg lead cappings to the parapet walls of the building.
• Form and dress lead sheeting by hand to suit the curved parapet geometry, ensuring continuouscoverage and smooth flow around all transitions and returns.
• Dress, boss and weld the lead in-situ to achieve watertight junctions and consistent appearance across both convex and concave parapet sections.
• Ensure proper underlay and fixings beneath the lead to manage thermal movement and prevent corrosion of substrate materials.
• Finish and detail joints, corners and terminations to meet long-term performance and maintain visual consistency with adjacent historic elements.
